Framing cobbles is a poor idea, and is certainly a very poor pun. But it can be a good way of bringing together what has come to be one of the main concepts of the study of mobilisations and the best symbol of urban revolts so far.

Developed in parallel of a PhD in Political Science on space and social movements in the Palestinian refugee camps of Beirut, this blog aims at opening a space of interaction between social movement studies and geography.
Indeed, as I was developing my literature reviews for my doctorate, I found that most of what I was writing in order to highloght the interaction between these two disciplines - although completely useless either for the PhD or for publication in peer-reviewed journals - could be of interest for any other researcher or student working on mobilisations in, on, or about space. Indeed if geography looks at social movements, and vice-versa, since a rather long period, very little has yet been made to translate concepts and concerns into a common language.

As much as it can and at its very small scale, with theoretical discussions as well as book, article and conference reviews, or field illustrations, this blog partly aims at attempting to bridge that gap.

(En)cadrer des pavés est une mauvaise idée, en même temps qu'un très mauvais jeu de mots. Mais l'idée peut être intéressante si elle permet d'associer ce qui est devenu l'un des concepts principaux en sociologie des mouvements sociaux avec le symbole classique des révoltes urbaines.

Développé en parallèle d'un doctorat en science politique focalisé sur l'espace et les mobilisations dans les camps de réfugiés palestiniens de Beyrouth, ce blog vise à ouvrir un espace d'interaction entre la sociologie des mouvements sociaux et la géographie.
En effet, alors que je développais les revues de littérature de mon doctorat, je me suis aperçu que l'essentiel de ce que j'écrivais concernant l'interaction entre ces deux disciplines - quoique complètement inutile à la fois au document final de la thèse en elle-même et inapproprié pour une publication dans des revues à comité de lecture - pourrait être utile à d'autres chercheurs et étudiants s'intéressant sur des mobilisations dans, sur, ou à propos de l'espace. En effet, si la géographie s'intéresse aux mouvements sociaux, et inversement, de longue date, les entreprises visant à traduire les concepts et les thèmes d'une discipline à l'autre dans un langage commun restent marginales.

Pour autant qu'il puisse le faire, et à sa propre très petite échelle, en utilisant aussi bien des discussions théoriques que des comptes-rendus d'ouvrages, d'articles, et de conférences, ou des illustrations par des extraits de terrain, ce blog vise à combler un peu l'écart entre deux disciplines.
